Company History
Dalzells of Markethll were established as Noel’s way back in 1956, at The Square in the Co. Armagh market town of Markethill by the legendary Noel Dalzell and his quick witted wife, Evelyn, as a household furnisher (including beds!). Business wasn’t easy at first and in the opening week Noel had barely sold a stick of furniture and had taken the sum of 15’6, the equivalent of 80p in today’s money and it seemed likely that the venture would meet an early end. Saturday came and late that afternoon a newly married Mr & Mrs McRoberts arrived at the store and purchased furniture and homewares to meet all the needs of their new home.
From humble beginnings, hard work, a little luck and an innate ability to communicate with customers, they laid the foundations for rapid expansion and they soon purchased extensive new premises on Main Street which has remained our home to this day. There they extended their business to agricultural supplies and the growing market for home appliances. Indeed, such was the growth of home appliances that Dalzells were soon the official wholesalers for leading brands like Electrolux and Servis. They even began importing premium appliance brands such as Smeg directly from Italy to Ireland for the first time as the sole distributor – Home Appliances continues to be a huge part of our business to this day.
Third Generation Family Business
Now a third generation family business with Trevor and Sharon at the helm, the business has nigh on 70 years of expertise and is a trusted name in the bedding industry. Our passion for quality and comfort hasn’t wavered, and we continue to provide our customers with the very best beds and the best possible sleep.
As an independent retailer of some of the biggest brands, including Reyon, Kaymed, King Koil, Respa, Mibed, Sherborne, Slumbernight, Hestia, Dunlopillo, The Natural Sleep Company and many more besides we have something to suit all needs and price points and offer free, impartial advice to ensure your purchase is the correct one for you.
We take great pride that many of these brands are manufactured on the island of Ireland supporting local jobs, know how and manufacturing. Through the years we’ve become something of a specialist in Adjustable Beds and Riser Recliner Chairs, crucially displaying a large range with stock on-hand for immediate delivery for those in need.
Our staff are enthusiastic about the importance of a regular and consistent sleeping pattern and how this can affect quality of life – a good night’s sleep begins with a great bed. As such our sales team have all graduated from the National Bed Federation’s Training Programme, to understand customers’ individual sleep needs and requirements, to help select the bed most suited to their needs.
